Artificial Intelligence: Can you keep up?

I have decided to take a look at Harris Blumenthal’s posts on Artificial Intelligence and how it will change the future of the word. Harris is a student at the University At Buffalo’s business school. I found the most interesting of the Articles he wrote to be “AI will not fully replace Humans”, which went against my initial thoughts on the subject. He opened up his article by saying that “…that does not mean humans will be fully replaced by robots. There are a lot of things that Artificial Intelligence can do however, humans can also do many things that this technology will never be able to do. Humans have a lot of unique traits that will never be able to done by technology or a robot.” (Blumenthal p. 1). This brought up a great point, Artificial Intelligence is not necessarily capable of looking at small pictures. For example, if a computer was your boss it would have a program installed that would judge if the company should keep you. Perhaps you show up to work late 3 times in a week, and if this went against company policy, the computer would determine that you should be terminated. This however is irrational, as we do not know why an individual is late for work, they could perhaps be busting their ass every day working multiple jobs to make ends meet, or maybe taking care of a child at home. Does this necessarily constitute termination from work? Of course not, and that is why Artificial Intelligence can never fully take over the workplace, despite my original thoughts on the subject. Humans are capable of passing judgement on others based off more than statistical data points, Artificial Intelligence even with the aid of Deep Learning programming can not do this. Blumenthal goes into greater detail on this topic by talking about how interview processes could be aided by Artificial Intelligence, but could not be replaced, stating that, “a job that cannot be done by a robot is a job where the main point is to get to know another person. Reading another persons attitude and analyzing if they are good for the job will a require a human to be present. This type of job can be complemented with a robot going over all the work of the person being interview.”. (Blumenthal p. 1). Although Artificial Intelligence can out perform humans on a statistical level, machines are incapable of accomplishing some of the most simple objectives despite their ability to accomplish some tasks that would take a human hours in a matter of minutes.
